Istanbul!
A vibrant and bustling destination with a population of more than 14 million people and counting, where East truly meets West, old meets new, progress meets tradition. For good reason it has become a must-see destination. We explored opulent palaces and mosques, walking and immersing ourselves in the city’s rich tapestry of cultures and the Ottoman Empire. We indulged in incredible Turkish cuisine, from traditional street food to eclectic laneway restaurants to Michelin Star quality restaurants and roof top bars. A sunset cruise down the Golden Horn, the city’s natural harbour is recommended, to really experience the enormity of the city, its spectacular architecture, city lights and the stunning colours of the seaway, as evening descends.
If by chance you visit Istanbul in April you will experience the colourful spectacle of the Annual International Tulip Festival. Tulips adorn roadways, roundabouts, and palace gardens. Some 16 million bulbs are said to be planted each year, and the tulip motif is also a prominent traditional symbol, appearing on an array of crafts, from textiles to ceramics.
